The Blanket presented Bessie-Award winning choreographer Beth Gill at the Carrie Furnaces. Gill created a choreographic mashup of two previous works for The Blanket entitled Yolk & Grove - a structural study in which one work invaded another, creating a landscape of drifting sculptural forms and explosive dramatic events. Beautifully danced by Isabella Bergamin, Sara Caplan, Adrienne Elion, Lindsay Fisher, Cassiy McDermott Smith, Frances Tirado Molina, and Adie San Diego, this work unfolded on a patchwork-cardboard floor flanked by pick-up trucks which were used to amplify a commissioned score by composer Ryan Seaton.
The Blanket’s second season brought Bessie-Award winning choreographer Christopher Williams to Pittsburgh to set excerpts of his epic works Ursula and the 11,000 Virgins (2005) and The Golden Legend (2009). Dancers Isabella Bergamin, Lindsay Fisher, Frances Molina, Tara Nixon, Matt Pardo, Maree Remalia, Caitlin Scranton, and Anna Thompson performed solo roles of Christian martyrs and saints, inspired by the grisly and fantastical lore of a host of early Christian trailblazers. Joined by dancers Weylin Gomez, Josh Lyda, Taylor Knight and Luke Profy and accompanied by musicians Jaqueline Horner-Kwiatek, Eliza Bagg, Marc Armitano and Michael Domain, these solos were performed at the beautiful New Hazlett Theater on Pittsburghs Northside. The Blanket's initial project brought post-modern choreographer Lucinda Childs to Pittsburgh to set 4 of her early "silent works" on our dancers. Working with Ms. Childs, dancers Lindsay Fisher, Eric Lobenberg, Bianca Melidor, Matt Pardo, Caitlin Scranton, Jil Stifel, and Sara Spizzichini, performed these works outside at the Monongahela Amphitheater.
